The Ohio Building Officials Association (OBOA) is a professional association founded in 1961 to promote Life Safety through building codes with improved responsiveness and consistency in enforcement.

Why Join OBOA?

OBOA has since 1961 represented the code enforcement community’s interests at Ohio Board of Building Standards, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Ohio General Assembly.

OBOA Chapters

When you join one of OBOA’s ten component chapters you also are a member of OBOA. The component chapters provide continuing education and local professional interactions. OBOA has since 1961 represented the code enforcement community’s interests at Ohio Board of Building Standards, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Ohio General Assembly. At OBOA’s request during the 1970’s the State adopted the Building Officials’ and Code Administrators International Inc’s National Building and Mechanical Codes. OBOA’s Residential Code of Ohio was adopted by the State as the code for industrialized units (modular homes) and the was the base document when the State in 2004 adopted a one-, two- and three-family code for conventional construction. OBOA also represents the Ohio code enforcement community’s interests at the International Code Council (ICC) such as in the ICC code development process.

OBOA provides the Construction and Building Industry with current opportunities in the Code Administration and Enforcement Sector. This includes Plan Examiners, Building Officials, Inspectors (All Trades), Permit Technicians, and other Building and Housing Department Personnel.This Sector of Code Administration and Enforcement is at its highest level of opportunities and advancement in history. International Code Council Chapter

ICC Chapters are designated as Regional, State, Local, Professional, Student or Global depending on the geographical area they serve and the nature of their membership. The States which comprise Region V consists of Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Michigan. OBOA is a ICC Chapter for the State of Ohio and consists of 10 component Chapters. When you join your local Chapter you become a member of OBOA and Region V, including the benefits thereof.
